Galaxies and ICM across the Protocluster to Cluster transition – ALMA and VLT/MUSE observations of very Massive  Clusters at z~1.5

IFPU

24 – 28 February 2025

The emergence of the first massive galaxy clusters from the protocluster to cluster transition is a critical question at the crossroads of galaxy evolution, large scale structure and cosmology research. We are finally in the position of exploiting the synergy between major facilities across the spectrum to probe this transformational phase for clusters as a whole, their galaxy populations and their ICM. The goal of this proposed team research program is to enable the efficient, synergic exploitation of new observations (VLT/MUSE and ALMA) recently acquired by our group on a sample of the most massive and distant galaxy clusters, by creating a network of international collaborators with the necessary, specific and complementary expertise to effectively analyse this unique data-set. These combination of expertise and data, complementing our already extensive follow-up program on these systems, will allow us to significantly advance our investigations of galaxy populations and ICM in these distant clusters, among the first to emerge from the cosmic web and most massive known at this cosmic time.
